  • Is Your Backup Backing Up?
Is your backup broken

When did you last check your backup?

Just as you get your car checked out annually, so it is a good idea to run checks on your backups regularly – are you sure that your backup is actually backing up?

Most of us are aware that if our computer failed, we could lose all of our emails, contacts, documents, photos etc, and have therefore made provisions to ensure that all we do on our computers is covered by a secure backup system.

Should our laptop fail, get damaged, or be stolen we can just log in to our backup and VOILA! All our data.

Or can we?

Whilst installing a backup on your computer is something we highly recommend, you should not just assume that it is doing its job.

Whatever the vehicle you drive you need to perform certain checks to ensure all is working as it should be. So too with your computer – making a note to check that your backup is running, and doing any updates when prompted to do so, will take you a few minutes and could save you a whole load of pain.

It would be great if we could install software and just assume that it will work, but all programs need maintenance and updates.

A backup program that has not had updates for a period of time may not be backing anything up and your comfort cushion of ‘I have backup installed’ may be as useless as a chocolate teapot.

Wherever you have data stored you need to have backups in place – and wherever you have backups in place you need to check those backups are doing just that – backing up.

Don’t wait until you have a failure; check periodically or organise a session with us and we can check all is working as it should for you.
